What is the full form of SAN?

The SAN is a term from the network storage. The full form of SAN is a storage area network.  It is high-speed storage accessible via the network.   In traditional computing, a server holds the disks for storing files and data. While in SAN, the server access storage on a remote location over the network. But looks that the storage is local to the server.  SAN means, to have storage over the network.  It brings the need for fast network devices, such as network cards, switches, and optical Fiber cables.  We can also think of SAN as a storage service. Many companies provide storage with large space and low latency.

SAN brings many advantages to end-users. E.g easy to scale, redundancy, grow as you need, security, etc.
